Elected leaders at every level, including in the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate must take action to hold drug corporations accountable for price-gouging patients on life-saving medicines. As long as the drug corporations have monopoly power to charge us whatever price they choose, their profits will soar while patients and families can’t get affordable medicines.
President Biden and Democrats in Congress took the first step toward lowering costs for millions of seniors and people with disabilities by passing the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) which for the first time requires drug corporations to negotiate lower prices, caps the price of insulin at $35 a month and penalizes corporations for raising drug prices faster than inflation. But implementing the new law will take all of us.
So will building on this progress.
We must expand the cost-saving reforms in the (IRA) to include people of all ages and with all kinds of insurance to make prescriptions truly affordable for everyone. After all, cutting edge treatments and medicines can’t help people that can’t afford them.
Take action now!
