Statement on Senate Republican’s vote to continue their anti-ACA crusade

Statement from Margarida Jorge, campaign director for Lower Drug Prices Now, in response to Senate Republican’s vote to continue their anti-ACA crusade:

“In the middle of a crisis that has needlessly cost millions their jobs — and hundreds of thousands their lives — Republicans are dead set on taking away access to affordable healthcare and consumer protections so they can give more tax breaks to pharmaceutical corporations.

Repealing the Affordable Care Act will increase prescription drug costs for seniors by reopening the Part D donut hole while giving drug corporations an annual $2.8 billion tax break. The healthcare law has saved Medicare recipients nearly $26 billion between 2010 and 2017 on prescriptions alone. Rather than build on that success, President Trump and the Republicans are working to add another anti-ACA Justice to the Supreme Court who will vote to overturn the law on November 10th, when the court hears another lawsuit to overturn it.

Big Pharma continues to price-gouge patients for lifesaving drugs, but rather than ‘reining them in’ or making them negotiate for lower prices as Trump promised, Republicans rewarded them with massive tax giveaways. It’s time for President Trump and Senate Republicans to put our health care ahead of their politics by holding drug corporations accountable for lowering prices.”
