“Moderna just admitted that its covid vaccine is 100% taxpayer-funded, only a week after comfortably stating before Congress that it plans to make a profit on a vaccine the American people have already paid nearly a billion dollars to develop. Moderna executives and insiders have already made $200 million off of the stock gains resulting from announcements of vaccine trials and government awards. It’s clear that Moderna has already made a profit from its potential vaccine, and that it plans to gouge patients to make even more money. We can’t trust prescription drug corporations to put public health ahead of their own financial gain. That’s why Congress has to block Moderna from getting monopoly control over the price of any vaccine. Vaccines and COVID-19 medicines are being developed with our taxpayer dollars–Congress must guarantee that those medicines will be affordable for everyone.”
