Statement from Margarida Jorge, campaign director for Lower Drug Prices Now, on news that drugmakers have needlessly been hiking prices on already expensive medicines, increasing U.S. spending by $1.4 billion:
It is absolutely ridiculous that at the same time Big Pharma is spending literally hundreds of millions of dollars to try and stop lawmakers from lowering prescription drug prices for families, they’re also raising prices of the most expensive drugs in the U.S. to inflate profits. This blatant and unapologetic robbery of American patients isn’t a surprise—big Pharma has been price gouging American families, seniors and patients on their prescription drugs for decades because they care more about lining their pockets than anything else. It’s time to put an end to Big Pharma’s greed, and that starts by the House passing the Build Back Better Act—including price negotiations and cost caps—as soon as possible.
